「そうなの。淋しかったわね」遊びに来た息子の友達は両親が離婚して、母のぬくもりを知らずに育ったという。冴子はその身の上に心から同情した。だから膝枕してほしいという頼みも快く受け入れてあげた。少しでも慰めになればいい。そう思って頭を撫でてあげた。だが太ももに顔を埋める息子の友達を見ているうちに冴子の中に違う感情が芽生えてしまう。この子をもっと慰めてあげたい…。冴子は体が熱くなるのを感じていた。
